we've always dressed in meaning. the jacket you were wearing the night everything changed. the coat that still hangs three states away because no one can give it up. we already know clothing holds our lives — we just never had a way to make the garment say what it holds.

tela is that way. a chip behind the label, patient and invisible, that you program from your phone. this isn't making clothes smart — smart is loud, smart wants your attention. this is the opposite. a secret sewn into a seam. a letter that only opens for the right hand. taste over trend. concept over hype. experience over spectacle.

the name

tela — latin for cloth, the canvas you weave a story into. it also hides the word tell. and it belongs to 212: two people, one thing between them — a giver, a receiver, and a single meaning passed by a tap. 001 on 2twelve os.

turn the garment inside out

find the care label or an inner seam near the collar, cuff, or hem — somewhere you can name later ("tap the left cuff").

position the label tela

slide it flat against the fabric, tucked behind the care label. the chip side can face either way — nfc reads through cloth.

stitch the four corners

a few stitches at each corner is plenty. keep the patch flat, not puckered, so it stays invisible from outside.

4

tap to confirm

open the app, hold your phone to the spot. when it reads, you've placed it right. the app remembers where.

5

kindle it

program the garment with a voice, a note, a song. done — wear your story.

peel the heat-seal backing

the label tela ships with an activatable adhesive film on the back. remove the protective layer.

place, then cover

set it inside the garment against the label, then lay a thin cotton cloth over it to shield the chip from direct heat.

press 10–15 seconds

medium heat, firm steady pressure — no steam, no sliding. avoid the very hottest setting: heat is the chip's one enemy.

cool, then tap

give it a minute to bond and cool. tap with the app to confirm the read, then kindle it.

open a short length of seam

on a hem or side seam, gently open 3–4cm with a seam ripper, or slip the strip into an existing open hem channel.

slide the seam tela in

feed the slim strip into the seam allowance so it sits flat between the fabric layers, away from where it presses on skin.

tack and re-close

one or two anchoring stitches keep it from travelling, then close the seam back up with a simple running stitch.

choose a hidden anchor

an inner coat pocket, the inside of a waistband, the tongue of a boot, or behind an existing button.

sew through the disc holes

the button tela has stitch holes like a real button. anchor it firmly to a single fabric layer so it can't flap.

keep it off the crush zones

avoid the exact knee, elbow, or waist-fold points that take the hardest wear and the hottest press.

tap to confirm the read through the fabric, note the spot, and program it.

clean & dry the spot

pick a smooth inner surface — the placket, yoke, or lining. make sure it's clean and dry so the adhesive grips.

peel and press firmly

remove the backing, press the stick tela down hard for 20 seconds, working from the centre out to seal the edges.

rest 24 hours before washing

let the bond cure. for anything you'll keep, stitch the corners down later — adhesive is for tonight, thread is for good.

kindle it

tap, program, gift. this is the "wrap it in five minutes" path.

placement & care.

where to place it

  • findable, but not felt. somewhere you can name out loud — cuff, collar, hem, inner pocket — but where it won't press against the body.
  • away from the wash-hell zones. not the crush points or under an industrial press plate. behind a label naturally handles this.
  • one garment can hold two. a left cuff and a right cuff can tell two different stories. design for the delight of it.
  • nfc reads through cloth. the chip never needs to be exposed — a single layer of fabric over it is invisible to the eye, transparent to a tap.

caring for it

  • machine wash cold or warm — it's fine. no battery, nothing to power down. the only enemy is a cracked antenna, which is why every tela is encapsulated.
  • skip prolonged high heat on the chip. no industrial pressing right on the spot; a normal tumble dry is fine.
  • the story survives the garment. meaning lives on 2twelve os, so a failed chip can be re-issued and everything restored.
  • offline pieces are forever. a hidden note burned onto the chip needs no server and no account — it simply works.
